Running Pace Calculator
Enter a distance and the time you ran or plan to run it in. The splits underneath are what that pace would give you at every other race distance.
How the math works
Pace = total time / distance. Speed is the same relationship the other way up: 60 / pace in minutes per mile gives miles per hour. One mile is 1.609344 km, a 5K is 3.10686 miles and a marathon is 26.2188 miles.
Common questions
- What is a good running pace?
- For most recreational runners, 9 to 11 minutes a mile is a comfortable steady pace, and under 8 is quick. The more useful measure is whether you can hold a conversation, which is what an easy pace should allow.
- How do I convert pace per mile to pace per kilometer?
- Divide by 1.609. A 10:00 mile is about 6:13 per kilometer. Going the other way, multiply the kilometer pace by 1.609.
- Should I run all my miles at race pace?
- No. Most coaches put around 80 percent of weekly mileage at an easy conversational pace and only the remainder hard. Running every run at a moderate effort is the most common way people stop improving.
