Everything converts through the US fluid ounce: value x (fluid ounces per the unit you have) / (fluid ounces per the unit you want). A US fluid ounce is exactly 29.5735295625 ml. A cup is 8 fl oz, a pint 16, a quart 32 and a gallon 128. A tablespoon is half a fluid ounce and a teaspoon a sixth.

How many milliliters are in a cup?

A US cup is about 237 ml. Most recipes and measuring jugs round it to 240, which is close enough for cooking and is where the 240 ml figure on nutrition labels comes from.

Is a US gallon the same as a UK gallon?

No, and the gap is large. A US gallon is 128 US fl oz, about 3.785 liters. An imperial gallon is about 4.546 liters, roughly 20 percent bigger. The same is true of pints and quarts, which catches out anyone reading a British recipe.

Can I use these for dry ingredients?

Only loosely. A cup is a volume, and a cup of flour can weigh anywhere from 120 to 150 grams depending on how it was packed. For baking, weigh it. For liquids, volume is fine.
