5 calculators
- Paint CalculatorEnter the room size and this gives you the gallons for the walls, the ceiling and the primer, with the doors and windows taken out of the area.
- Tile CalculatorEnter the area and the tile size. This gives you the tile count with waste included, and the thinset and grout that go with it.
- Square Footage CalculatorLength times width, in whatever unit you measured in. You also get square yards and square meters, and the cost if you know the price per square foot.
- Flooring CalculatorFlooring is sold by the box, so that is what this answers. Enter the room, the coverage printed on the box and how much waste the pattern needs.
- Pool Volume CalculatorEnter the shape and the size and this gives you the gallons. That one figure sets every chemical dose, the pump you need and what a refill costs.
Measuring a room
Most jobs around the home start with the same number: the area of the floor or walls. The square footage calculator handles rectangles and L shaped rooms, and the flooring, tile and paint calculators build on that to give boxes, tiles and gallons.
For flooring and tile, add 10 percent for cuts, or 15 percent if you are laying tiles on a diagonal. For paint, enter the number of coats: most colour changes need two. The calculator takes off the doors and windows you enter.
The pool volume calculator gives gallons for round, oval and rectangular pools, which you need for dosing chemicals and for knowing how long a fill will take.
