How the math works
The countdown is a plain subtraction of two UTC dates divided into days, so nothing shifts across a daylight saving change. Progress is the days already elapsed divided by the whole span, capped at 100 percent.
Common questions
- Does the countdown include today?
- No. It counts the days remaining after today, so a date tomorrow shows 1. If you need to include today, add one.
- Why does the count not change by the second?
- Because it counts whole days, which is what people plan with. A ticking clock looks impressive and tells you less.
- Can I count down to a past date?
- Yes. Enter it and the page reports how long ago it was instead, in days and in years and months.
- How many working days are left before a deadline?
- The working days line answers that, counting Monday to Friday. It does not remove public holidays - use the business days calculator if you need those taken off.
