Salary Calculator
Convert in either direction. The per-paycheck line is the one that matters when a job offer quotes a salary and you need to know what lands in the account.
How the math works
Annual = hourly rate x hours per week x weeks per year. Reverse it to go the other way: hourly = annual / (hours x weeks). Per paycheck is the annual figure divided by the number of pay periods: 52 weekly, 26 every two weeks, 24 twice monthly, or 12 monthly. All figures here are gross, before tax.
Common questions
- What is 25 dollars an hour a year?
- About 52,000 dollars at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. The quick version is to double the hourly rate and add three zeros, which is accurate whenever the year is a full 2,080 hours.
- Is being paid every two weeks the same as twice a month?
- No. Every two weeks is 26 paychecks a year, twice a month is 24. The annual total is identical but each check differs by about eight percent, and only the first arrangement gives you two three-check months.
- Does this show my take-home pay?
- No, these are gross figures. Federal, state and local tax, Social Security, Medicare, insurance and retirement all come out afterwards, and together they commonly take 25 to 35 percent.
